We met  on January 22 at Allen Bean's.  Discussed
Mystery and Manners by Flannery O'Connor. It is a collection of essays that were originally notes for lectures O'Connor gave on several occasions over the span of her brief career.  The essays deal primarily with O'Connor's aesthetic principles. I think this is good for us to investigate since it provides a solid aesthetic model that will help when reading her fiction specifically and 20th century fiction in general.
Second, O'Connor is a rarity among modern writers in that she was devoutly and unequivocally Christian and also produced a stellar oeuvre; some of the best fiction of her time (such is the critical consensus of her stories and novels).

We had a great time discussing Webber's Evangelicals on the Canterbury Trail on November 20, and missed all who were not there. Thanks to everyone for the "ancillary provender" and especially to Rick and Vikki for the grilled beef and venison chili
