Note: Because of the Covid-19 restrictions our physical participation in many outreach programs during the year has been curtailed. We pray that normal parish life will soon be possible.
All women of the church are welcome and are encouraged to participate in this service group’s activities which reach both inside and outside the walls of the church. Please click on the above link to learn about St. Monica’s mission and outreach.
The members of the Good Shepherd parish family are also supporting the following organizations and et al.:
Liberation Lunches is an on-going ministry that meets the third Saturday of each month to provide bagged lunches for homeless veterans. If you would like to help and make a contribution, we are accepting food items: including single-serving sized snacks such as chips, cookies, crackers, pudding cups, and snack bars, as well as, juice box drinks. You can place the items in the kitchen in the cupboard under the back window, which is labeled “LIBERATION LUNCHES”.
Good Shepherd has been supporting this ministry for several years. If you have any questions or are interested in making a donation or volunteering, please contact the church office. For those not familiar with this organization, Liberation Veteran Services assists homeless veterans by providing shelter, food and counseling services. If you have any questions or are interested in making a donation or volunteering, please contact the church office.
We continue to support the activities of CARITAS.
FeedMore is our area’s hunger-relief leader and combines the services of the Central VA Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and the Community Kitchen. Our youth ministry hopes to be involved next year (2021) with organizing and collecting donations for the Food Bank Drive during October and November.
In past years we have joined with other churches in Richmond to support this international hunger relief organization through donations to buy the food and through a Saturday morning/afternoon project of bagging the nutritious meals for distribution around the globe.
This year the August/September “Back to School Shoe Drive and Distribution Day” to support RPS children was cancelled. Our parish took part in this multi-church sponsored activity in 2018 and 2019. (The pictures below were taken early on a Saturday morning at one of several city schools staging sites before the children and their adult family members arrived.)
