The Church of the Good Shepherd was established  with the cornerstone of the building being laid on June 25, 1908, and the first service in the building was on November 15 of the same year.  The church is a copy of the Isle of Wight Church, which is recognized as one of the most beautiful small churches in Virginia.  You are invited to view  pictures of our church.  October 21, 1914 the church was consecrated by Bishop Randolph.

The mission of the Church of the Good Shepherd is to obey Christ by making disciples of all people.  We make disciples by leading people to Christ as Savior and Lord, and by helping them to mature through Scripture education, forming Christian relationships with the congregation, and following God's call into ministry.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."  Proverbs 3:5

"You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor." Psalm 8:5 (Even the most difficult people we know bear the image of God.)

"...Though she may forget, I will not forget you, see, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands"  Isaiah 49:15-16

"Show us your mercy, O Lord, and grant us your salvation."  Psalm 85:7

"My soul waits for the Lord, more than watchmen for the morning . . ." Psalm 130:5

Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep...I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father...So there will be one flock, one shepherd." John 10:11-16

"See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are...What we do know is this:  when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is.  And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure..."1 John 3

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

" . . . From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him--though indeed he is not far from each one of us.  For 'in Him we live and move and have our being'; as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we too are his offspring.' . . ." Acts 17:22-31

"Pursue peace with everyone. ... See to it ... that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble."

"Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. . . Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.  Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.  Live in harmony with one another  ..."
